The shield is constructed on an 8 mm plywood core with rope edge reinforcement for added durability. The striking edge is protected with leather to withstand repeated impacts, while the remaining edge construction helps keep the shield lightweight and responsive. The surface is covered with linen and can be customized with heraldic artwork or a single-color finish. A leather handle and forearm strap ensure a secure and comfortable grip during combat.
